Should I watch the special edition or unaltered version of the original trilogy?
I want to watch the original movies to refresh my memory of the plot since it's been forever since I've seen a Star Wars film and I've forgotten most of the story.
Cut scenes from Star Wars Episode IV on the Blu-ray. All clips were edited to have sound effects/score/foley to feel more like the final film. Star Wars: A New Hope - Deleted Scenes [1080p HD. You can (legally) download the 'Star Wars' movies starting Friday.
I've been undecided over whether or not I should watch the special edition or the unaltered edition. Right now I'm kinda wanting to watch the unaltered edition because I want to see the movies exactly as they looked when they came out. I hear a lot of negative things about the special edition and how it's filled with CGI, how scenes have been altered or changed, and how the music is different. I just don't feel like CGI effects from the 90's would blend well with a movie that came out in the 70's/80's.
Are the critics over reacting and exaggerating or do they have a point? I'd love to hear all your opinions and what you think!
Edit: why all the downvotes? This is a legitimate question to ask. Not sure what I said that warranted this but whatever.
If you’ve got two hours to kill and have a love for all things Star Wars, the internet has something great for you. An unofficial documentary-style project called Star Wars: Deleted Magic exists, and it’s sole purpose is to take all of the deleted, unfinished, and personally recorded bits from the creation of the original trilogy and serve it up for everyone to enjoy.
Like any good Star Wars geek, you’ve probably been through most of the bonus content in the Blu-Ray collections. There’s a ton of information out there about the creation of these films, especially since this undertaking was something that had never really been attempted before when it was being filmed. As a result, there’s even more content than what is included in the special editions of the trilogy if you know where to look. While it’s cool to see these individual snippets of content, Garrett Gilchrist thought it would be better if these bits were assembled into a pair of hour long videos to enjoy all at once.
